Patients and Caregivers

Patients and Caregivers

Navigating the complex medical landscape can already be difficult for some people. It’s especially challenging for individuals with special or complex medical conditions. Fortunately, we make it easy for everyone to obtain quality, comprehensive dental care.

At our dentists' offices in San Antonio, we welcome patients with conditions such as:

  • Autism
  • Down syndrome
  • Fragile X
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Parkinson’s

These are only some of the conditions we are prepared for. Our dentists and physicians are trained to provide patients with complex medical concerns with the best care in a comfortable, supportive environment. Our workspaces are designed to accommodate both the patient and their caregiver.

Our staff is ready to help you with any questions you may have to make the process as smooth as possible.

Scheduling an Appointment

Our La Cantera office is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Our Park Oaks office is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m and on Friday by appointment only. Most surgical center and hospital appointments begin as early as 7:00 a.m. We will schedule your appointment as promptly as possible.

If you or the person in your care is experiencing pain or an emergency, we will make every attempt to see you the same day. Patients needing dental clearance to begin medical treatments are prioritized to allow them to get their necessary treatment as soon as possible.

For your convenience, we will call or email you to remind you of each appointment.

Scheduling an Appointment Over the Phone

Our team strives to coordinate the best possible care. To do this, we will ask you for the following when you call to schedule an initial visit:

  • Patient’s name and date of birth
  • Patient’s medical condition(s)
  • Contact information
  • Any dental concerns
  • Insurance information. Please make sure you have all your medical and dental insurance card(s) available

Once we have this necessary information, we will then schedule an initial visit that works best for you.

X-Rays

If the patient has x-rays from a previous dentist within the last six months, we may request that you forward them to our office. You can also pick them up and bring them to us if you need to expedite the process. We can take additional films at our facility if necessary.

What to Expect During the First Visit

Our goal is to provide comfortable, convenient, and compassionate care for all our patients. We recognize that everyone’s needs vary, so we have first visit options to accommodate everyone.

An initial appointment consists of a patient examination and consultation, which explains their diagnosis and treatment options. The dentist will go over the patient’s medical history, past dental experience, and x-rays.

It may be necessary for the caregiver to meet with the dentist for an initial consultation without the patient. There, we will discuss their various needs without causing anxiety for the patient. You may also schedule a follow-up appointment for the patient to see the office, meet the staff, and become comfortable with our environment before future treatment.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of the consultation:

  • If the patient has medical or dental insurance, please bring both medical and dental insurance cards. This will save time and allow us to help process any claims.
  • A referral slip and any x-rays, if applicable.
  • If your previous dentist has taken recent x-rays (within six months), you may request to have them forwarded to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. We can take additional films at our facility if necessary.
  • A list of medications the patient is presently taking.
  • A list of the patient’s physicians and their contact information.

During the initial visit, the doctor will explain the diagnosis and discuss the treatment options with you. Upon your approval, we will then schedule the patient for their treatment, whether at our office, a surgical center, or a hospital.

New Patient Forms and Other Important Information

We ask that you please be thorough when completing our new patient forms and provide an accurate health history. Please present all medical condition(s) so our office can provide the highest quality care safely. A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under the age of 18 at the consultation visit.

If you have any other questions, please contact us! We have one office on La Cantera Pkwy and another at the Park Oaks Center.
