Why Would Someone Need a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns offer protection for a vulnerable tooth. They’re basically caps that go over your teeth to keep them from weakening even further. There are several reasons why patients would need a dental crown. Some of them include:

- After certain restorative treatments

What to Expect
Before placing the crown, we will need to shape your tooth for a snug fit. This involves filing down or even removing parts of the outer layer of the tooth. Next, we’ll put a temporary crown over the prepped tooth to keep it protected while we wait for the permanent one to arrive from the lab. Once it does, we’ll permanently attach the crown to your tooth.
Taking Care of Your Dental Crown
You’ll want to be extra careful with your dental crown to make sure it lasts a long time. Here are some tips to help you take care of yours:
- Avoid chewing hard foods or objects
- Brush and floss daily
- Wear a mouthguard while playing sports
- Ask about a nightguard if you have bruxism
