Single Tooth Replacement
Dental implant surgery is one of the most popular ways to replace missing or extracted teeth. We have options for you based on how many teeth you’re missing. La Cantera Dental Group is proud to offer single tooth replacement surgery at our practice!
Dangers of Missing a Tooth
Many people don’t realize the impact missing teeth can have on their smiles and health. Not only will it keep you from showing off your beautiful teeth, but it can also result in several other issues, including:
- Difficulty chewing
- Bone loss
- Low self-esteem
- Shifting of adjacent teeth
What to Expect During Implant Surgery
A dental implant procedure replaces your missing tooth and its root. During this surgery, your dentist will place the implant screw in your gums. It needs to go through a process called osseointegration, which is when your jawbone fuses with the implant post for a sturdy hold. This may take several months.
Once that’s done, you will return to the practice, and the dentist will place a custom crown on top of the implant post. You should have a fully restored, beautiful smile.
Recovering from Implant Surgery
Some patients may notice swelling in their gums and face during implant recovery. This is normal, and putting ice on the affected area should help control it. You may also take pain medication if necessary to manage any discomfort post-surgery.
When brushing and flossing, avoid the extraction site for the first few days after surgery. You also shouldn’t be drinking through a straw or eating hard food. Get plenty of rest for the first couple of days after your procedure to ensure a smooth recovery.
Most importantly, make sure to call our office if anything seems out of the ordinary!
